After Work
Full echoed sigh
think again –
to feel and breathe
to let my soul take a moment
Outside the nasty shell
away from the seas and sorrows
away from the nose and noise and smell
Away away
Oh to think again –
to find quiet uninterrupted life
the sun filtering through unwashed panes older than pain
a tiny fly fluttered to death
All fossil and no buzz
Thinking thinking
Neurons firing for the first time in weeks
finally my brain works through the fuzz
recovers from the exertions of the body
My hands can move again
the muscles accustomed to the pain
my legs can fold again
accustomed to the ladder steps
my mind can breathe
and echo and sigh and think and write
